We all love a good stroll around a market and what better way to do so with like-minded people, live music, local food, and cool crafts for that next special occasion.
The Elgin Railway Market is within the old apple warehouse converted into a bustling Steampunk, Art Deco market boasting a variety of atmospheric things to get your juices flowing and of course, it is the gateway to the beautiful Elgin Valley.
The original building was built in the 1940s by Italian POWs. The concrete tapered columns and curved box gutters bear testimony to the skill of those bygone craftsmen. It has been extensively renovated into a showpiece well worth a visit.
The Ceres Rail company with its stable of 80-year-old steam trains operates a Cape Town to Elgin weekend return trip. The train’s arrival is a must-see for children (and adults) as they roar in with thunderous whistling, puffing, and hooting. Visitors to the market can greet the train on the station platform or view its arrival from the Market’s leisure deck overlooking the railway platform.
The team has planned a great on-road route out to the Elgin Railway Market covering +/- 180 kilometres of some of the best roads the Western Cape has to offer. The team will be meeting at Triumph Cape Town from 08h00, departing at 08h30. The shop will be open for you to browse the showroom floor and treat yourself to some retail therapy and of course grab a great cappuccino.
The event will be limited to 30 people (including pillions). All motorcycles are welcome. Please be sure to register your attendance by selecting one ticket or two if a pillion will be joining you on the day.
We look forward to riding with you again.
